Leading the charge for our Junior Varsity, Varsity Boys, and Varsity Girls teams, these outstanding players embody the spirit and dedication of Mulgrave Basketball. Their leadership will be instrumental as we prepare for the exciting upcoming USA Tour, where our teams will showcase their skills and sportsmanship on an international stage. 2025 USA Tour Team
2 Boys teams and 1 Girls Team
The Junior Advanced Training Squad (JATS) is a high-performance basketball program for talented young athletes aged 12 to 17 from Cairns, Atherton, Mission Beach, and Mareeba. In December 2025, three teams—two boys’ teams and one girls’ team—will embark on an unforgettable tour to the United States, where they will compete against American high school teams, visit college programs, and participate in elite training camps.
USA Tours
The Junior Advanced Training Squad (JATS) is an elite basketball development program for boys and girls aged 12 to 17 from across Far North Queensland. Since its inception, JATS has provided young athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills, compete at a high level, and experience the excitement of international basketball.
USA Tour 2025 – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience
Our 6th JATS USA tour in December 2025 will take our athletes on an unforgettable 24-day journey across Ohio, Chicago, Texas, and Los Angeles. This experience will include:
✅ 8 to 10 competitive games against top American high school teams
✅ Exclusive 2-day training camp with the Dallas Mavericks
✅ NBA and college basketball games – witness world-class talent live
✅ College visits to explore future pathways
✅ Unforgettable sightseeing – from city skylines to iconic landmarks
Building Memories, Friendships & Future Pathways
Beyond basketball, our athletes have the chance to experience the culture and excitement of the USA. Previous tours have included visits to the Grand Canyon, New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Times Square, Central Park, Texas, North Carolina, LA, Disneyland, Universal Studios, and Washington DC.
The JATS USA Tour is more than just a trip—it’s a journey of growth, friendship, and unforgettable experiences. Players develop their skills, build confidence, and form lifelong memories while representing their region on the international stage.

The Junior Advanced Training Squad is designed as a high‑performance development pathway for Mulgrave Basketball’s most promising athletes.

Objectives
The Junior Advanced Training Squad (J.A.T.S) aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Deliver an elite‑level development program that enhances athletes’ ability to compete successfully at State and National levels.
- Provide structured development and support pathways for representative coaches, strengthening coaching capability across the association.
- Promote and identify clear progression pathways for both players and coaches toward State and National programs.
- Develop athletes holistically, improving their mental, physical, and technical skills across all aspects of the game.
- Foster disciplined sportsmanship, ensuring athletes train and compete with the highest standards of behaviour and professionalism.
- Create opportunities for athlete identification, enabling players to be recognised for State‑level programs and to receive coaching from State and National‑level coaches.
- Coach Involvement J.A.T.S sessions are led by the Junior Development Director with support from representative coaches. Coaches may be rotated through sessions to broaden their development and exposure to high‑performance environments.
Tours
Every two (2) years (approximately based on player, coach and tournament availability) the JATS squad will go on tour. Previous tours have included Melbourne to compete at the Eltham/Dandenong Tournament, Outback Tour and America. Tour dates and destinations will be determined by the Junior Development Director.
